Exhibition highlights ARGUS 165 and ARGUS Copper Box
The highlights on the intec booth were the ARGUS 165 xDSL+GigE combi tester, which had in fact been available since the beginning of the year and the new ARGUS Copper Box. Together they offer a comprehensive range of testing that is exceptional even if you compare to modular test systems. All the usual broadband interfaces are integrated without any degradation, and the well-known ARGUS easy operation and the interface variety of the proven ARGUS ISDN and analog tester series (ISDN PRI/E1, BRI/S/T/U and POTS) are combined in a single device.

Also, ADSL (Annex A, B, J, L and M simultaneously), VDSL2 (up to profile 30a as well as vectoring), SHDSL (2-, 4-, 8 wire in the ATM, TDM and EFM mode) as well as Gigabit Ethernet (copper and fibre) can be provided together if required. The Gigabit Ethernet interface integrated as standard enables a download performance of more than 200 Mbit/s. If necessary, however, throughput tests of up to 1 Gbit/s are possible with loop and traffic generator. If required, in addition a further 1000 Base T interface and two SFP slots for the flexible use of various SFP modules (FTTx) are available.

ARGUS Copper Box
With ARGUS Copper Box, all important physical values of the local loop can be captured in real-time and graphically displayed when connected to the ARGUS. The measurement between tip (a), ring (b) and ground can be controlled easily via the color display of the ARGUS tester and carried out virtually instantaneously. In this way, the box completes the on-board test functions that are already available with the ARGUS 165 such as TDR, spectrum analysis up to 30 MHz (Line Scope), R, C and DC voltage measurement with all significant values, such as AC voltage, current, isolation or symmetry. 

Further highlights
The ARGUS testers proved themselves again in the sub-disciplines for mobile hand-held equipment like reduced weight, manageable size, short boot and test times and battery life due to modern lithium ion technology. Particularly impressive, however, was not only the intuitive operation providing the space for detail configuration by experts (e.g. several different VLANs simultaneously), but also the use without the need for presetting by using pre-configured profiles. All brought together in one tidy graphical user interface that even makes child's play of entering an IPv6 address.

The triple play (VoIP, IPTV and data) test functions are available as options for all equipments. The integrated acoustics makes the ARGUS into a fully independent test telephone on VoIP connections as one is accustomed to with ISDN and POTS test sets. As standard, the new product family, which includes the little brother of the ARGUS 165, the ARGUS 155 and the inexpensive ARGUS 152, supports Ethernet cabling tests to localize cable mis-routing in a LAN, making the further use of additional cable testers unnecessary.

The quality accessories, already elegantly tailored to the chosen equipment configuration, leave nothing more to be wished for. In addition, along with standard items like a carrying case and a car charger, a high-impedance probe, the ARGUS Active Probe II is available as well as accessories for remote switching of cables that along with the ARGUS Copper Box can save many unnecessary journeys.
