The solution package for testing VDSL2, ADSL, SHDSL, ISDN and Triple Play services

When used in combination with the ARGUS 33, the ARGUS 145 Triple Play tester becomes a convenient-to-use multi-functional solution for testing VDSL2 interfaces.

Lüdenscheid, February 2008. Customers are finding that the advantages of the new VDSL2 high-speed accesses include not only faster access when surfing in the web and collecting their e-mail, but also the pleasure of digital television and economical Internet telephony. Thanks to the rapid spread and increasing acceptance of this service, there is a growing need for professional test solutions. The need is for a solution that can test Triple Play services on VDSL2 accesses and record and display the connection parameters in detail as well as support high-performance measurement and testing of SHDSL, ADSL, ISDN and POTS interfaces.

The solution is here today in the form of a combination of the VDSL2/ADSL tester, the ARGUS 33, and the ARGUS 145 Triple Play tester for SHDSL, ADSL, Ethernet, ISDN and POTS interfaces. The ARGUS 145 is simply connected to the ARGUS 33 as an Ethernet terminal. The ARGUS 33 then serves as a VDSL2 modem with some extra functions. The VDSL2 parameters (e.g. data rate, attenuation and error counters) - measured by the ARGUS 33 can then be displayed on the ARGUS 145’s large display and evaluated. Furthermore, in this configuration, the ARGUS 145’s extensive range of test routines, which include tests of the Triple Play functions IPTV and VoIP as well as download tests, can also be used to test VDSL2 interfaces. Consequently, when used with an ARGUS 33, the ARGUS 145 can be used to test any copper wire interface including VDSL2.

Naturally, both testers can also be used separately. As a standalone device, the ARGUS 33 supports all the functions necessary to perform acceptance tests on newly connected VDSL2 accesses quickly and easily. The LEDs on the face of the tester provide instant information regarding the status of the connection. To perform a more in-depth evaluation, i.e. when the Argus 33 has indicated that the access is Not OK, the measurement data can be viewed on any common web browser. Since it has separate chipsets for VDSL2 and ADSL, the ARGUS 33 offers the optimum performance on both types of access. Another important feature of the tester is that it supports the switching in of various attenuators to simulate lines of differing lengths to test the effect on the transmission parameters.
