CeBIT 2008:
intec presents a flexible and economical entry-level tester for VoIP, ADSL and ISDN

At CeBIT 2008, intec is presenting its ARGUS 42 ADSL tester extended with additional functions. The tester is now available in two new versions: as a voice tester (ARGUS 42v) for “Voice over IP” (VoIP) with optional support for the common telephone interfaces (ISDN and POTS) or as an ADSL access tester (ARGUS 42a) with options available to extend it to complete ISDN/ADSL combi-tester.
It is available setup for Annex A, M or Annex B. It can, however, also be delivered with built-in support for all three - Annex A, B and M - in one tester.

New: The ARGUS 42 as a complete voice tester
Today, telecommunication measurements and tests must satisfy a very diverse range of requirements: VoIP (telephony over IP) is increasingly popular, while traditional circuit-switched telephony is still quite common, which poses something of a challenge for testers. At CeBIT intec is introducing an answer to this challenge - a voice tester version of the ARGUS 42 handheld tester, which offers valuable support in both areas. This tester can set up VoIP telephone (voice) calls on ADSL and Ethernet interfaces to evaluate the quality of the connection. With the addition of the POTS / BRI / U-interface option, it can also be used to test ISDN and POTS accesses. Regardless of the interface used, voice connections can be tested using either the handset or a headset.

The ARGUS 42 voice tester offers a comprehensive VoIP terminal simulation. An extension is available as an option which adds support for an extensive VoIP analysis; allowing an objective assessment of the quality of the connection by evaluating the important connection parameters. This extension enables the ARGUS 42 to supply detailed statistics, a SIP status log as well as information such as the Codec used.

The ARGUS 42’s list of proven functions includes among others measurement of the maximum data rate and line parameters such as the signal-to-noise ratio and the up and downstream attenuation. The ARGUS 42 is available with an IP option and now also with an HTTP download test. Thanks to the intuitive, easily understood menu system, which permits among other things easy configuration and the storage of various profiles, it is simple to operate.

The ARGUS 42 as an ADSL access tester – expandable to a combi-tester

The proven ADSL access tester, the ARGUS 42, includes a comprehensive set of measurement functions for ADSL interfaces. Like the ARGUS 42 voice tester, it supports the measurement of the maximum data rate and the up and downstream line parameters. Quick fault analysis is made easier by the OK / Not OK evaluation of the measured results and the graphic display of access data such as the bits or SNR per tone. Its spectrum of features is rounded out with extensive physical tests such as RC and voltage measurements as well as the calculation of the line length. As an option, the ARGUS 42 also offers internal support for the measurement of not only BRI and U-interface accesses but POTS accesses as well. When combined with this option, the ARGUS 42 becomes a flexible combi-tester for ADSL, ISDN and POTS. Naturally, the ADSL access tester can be extended with additional functions such as a download test or VoIP terminal simulation in any combination desired.
